About this painting
About this painting
Color Before Language is an original abstract painting by Lisbon-based artist Anna Rolskaya. Built up in layers of acrylic on canvas, the composition brings together magenta, deep red, violet, peach, orange, turquoise, pale blue, and dark green.
Broad sweeps of color are interrupted by drawn lines, dry brushwork, and smaller fragments of concentrated marks. Dense passages gather at the edges while an open field of pink moves through the center, creating a composition held between expansion and compression, instinct and structure.
The title considers color a form of perception that precedes words. Rather than illustrating a fixed idea, the painting begins with sensation—allowing color, rhythm, and gesture to communicate before meaning becomes verbal or defined.
