Meet Anna Rolskaya
Anna Rolskaya is an abstract painter based in Lisbon. She creates original acrylic and oil pastel works on canvas, ranging from cabinet-sized pieces to canvases up to two meters square. Her paintings are held in private collections across the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Europe.
Her process begins with thin, transparent washes to establish composition and lighting. She then applies layers of gesso and dense black, partially obscuring the surface and creating visual contradictions. These layers interact to form a balanced composition where tension remains visible within the frame.
She approaches color intuitively rather than by selection. Rolskaya began her art training at age nine with classical drawing and painting, later studying communication design in Portugal after relocating there in 2015. Her strong foundation in structural principles supports each of her canvases.
