Original painting by Anna Rolskaya The Capability of Not Knowing

"The Capability of Not Knowing" is a large-scale abstract painting by Lisbon-based artist Anna Rolskaya. Created with layered acrylic and oil pastel on canvas, the composition combines coral, vermilion, dusty pink, burgundy, muted green, blue, charcoal and soft grey.

Dense passages of colour are crossed by loose lines, repeated marks and fragments of organic form. Some areas feel almost floral before flowing into gesture, while darker shapes interrupt the brighter surface and prevent the composition from settling into a single reading.

The title considers uncertainty as a capacity: the ability to remain open when an answer has not arrived, suggesting that not knowing can become a comfortable state of existential experience.
